Final Year Projects are undertaken by every under-grad and post-grad student of NUST as part of their pre-requisite for completion of degree. CAC team plays a significant role in linking students, faculty and industry for such projects so that need-driven industry solutions can be developed by NUST students. These, if developed in to viable solutions can be later commercialized and handed over to the industry partner. FYP projects are a gate way for both industry and students to devise solutions of existing problems. It is beneficial for all stakeholders as it creates ample opportunities for each and every one of them.

There’s a dedicated portal titled SIVA, embedded in CMS account of industry liaison officers in each school. You must generate an application from there.

As part of its industry- academia linkages, NUST faculty placement program has been initiated in which NUST faculty during semester breaks visits organization’s premise/office. The visit can range from days to week. Such a program benefits both industry and faculty, as faculty gets the opportunity to analyse and devise solutions for existing problems while also bringing back potential employment opportunities for NUST students. FICS idea generation stage begins in September each year. Students, having a novel idea aligned with SDGs, are encouraged to apply.

Understanding the importance of industry-academia collaboration, NUST formed the Corporate Advisory Council (CAC) whose mandate was to facilitate communication and collaboration between university researchers and industry experts, thus enabling them to find workable solutions to emerging /global problems by utilizing the vast R&D base of NUST.

Student Industrial Visit Application (SIVA) on CMS, developed in March 2019, is an app to make the overall process of industry visits more efficient and automated.

The Career Development Centre (CDC) provides programs and services to students and alumni in exploring and making effective career choices. These programs provide opportunities for NUST students and Alumni to foster professional networks with employers and also assist employers in meeting their recruitment needs. The mandate of the Industry Liaison Office (ILO) is also mostly student placements in the Industry, for which they work with the middle-to-lower management levels in the Industry. On the other hand, CAC liaisons with the top management in various industrial, business and government enterprises and its main thrust is on generating projects through which the NUST R&D base in its various schools can solve industry problems.

Universities have a significant and pivotal role to play in the development of nations and economies. CAC was developed keeping in view the 4 basic functions of a university, and is playing a fundamental role in achieving the third, fourth and fifth functions described below. 1^st: The most basic function of a university is to teach and to award degrees, which is no higher than the role of a college. 2^nd & 3^rd: The second and third functions are academic and industry-based R&D, both of which are being fulfilled by NUST. 4^th: The fourth function is to contribute to policy development at the national level. 5^th: The fifth function of a university, based on its pool of the most fertile minds in the country (faculty, researchers, and students) is to create a dynamic Knowledge Ecosystem – a platform for technology incubation, business development and commercialization.

CAC was formed in April 2010.

The work of CAC encompasses various Industry sectors included but not limited to: Automotive, Bio-Technology, Infrastructure, Information & Communications Technology (ICT), Engineering, Banking & Financial Services, Energy, Chemical, Defence Technologies, Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), along with the Social Sector.
